Built in the 1930's with materials from the ranch
“Ranchers, the original conservationist”
The single story main ranch house built in the 1930's provides 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a breakfast area and a dining room with common living room. The house (HQ) is surrounded by the scenic "Juno Hills". Local weathered rock wraps around the exterior of the house with durable metal roofing. Pecan and oak hardwood flooring runs throughout the house and soft pine floors are in the kitchen. A central air and heat system provides the modern options if you are not preferring to open all double hung windows. A rock fire place in the living room is a wonderful retreat when cooler temperatures persist. High ceilings exist throughout the house with lots of natural light. Main house kitchen provides frig, dishwasher, gas stove with plenty of counter space and all cooking utensils. We also have a laundry room with a clothes washer and a clothes dryer. A swimming pool surrounded by many of the 'HQ' pecan trees is another seasonal attraction. The pool area also provides a size-able concrete patio to enjoy the un polluted skies at night for star gazing. And while touring the ranch one might find themselves jumping into one of the seven other water tanks located throughout the ranch for a refresher. The main ranch house also provides two enjoyable furnished screened porches. Weather you are on a porch or the pool deck or simply outside the house visitors don't want to take their eyes off the various feeders in the pasture or at the house area. Large native and exotic game including but not limited to white tail deer, rio grande turkey, javelina (not to be confused with wild hogs) plus any number of non game song birds (see our birding list) quickly connect one with nature. One notable guest who enjoyed his stay on the ranch was James A. Michener when he was researching for his novel, Texas.
A second option, our “guest house” or “bunk house” is located 15 feet behind our main house. This is an open room concept with kitchenette (small gas stove, frig, sink), multiple large beds and full bathroom – perfect for the family alternative to traditional camping.
The ranch is in the beginning stages of developing 6 more private hotel style bedrooms with common areas (living, kitchen, more covered porch space). The ranch also has plans to construct 'Pasture Casitas' which will be located in selected remote locations on the ranch. These 'Pasture Casitas' will be zero grid built with materials found on the ranch.
The JJR's year round deer lease (called 'Casa Blanca') is based across the 'draw' or 'arroyo' from the main ranch house. The bunkhouse for "Casa Blanca" (our old foreman's house) supports the needs of our hunters with kitchen, multiple rooms and a bathroom. Members of “Casa Blanca” can provide themselves their own campers and park their working hunting vehicle. This hunting lease begins around March/April each year (close to or before Spring Turkey Season). “Casa Blancas” is a traditional white tail deer lease. This group seeks to trophy hunt but over the years has evolved to much more. Together with family/ownership and range manager they work on the goals of ranch conservation methods and game management (as well the hosting of a Texas Youth Hunts (TYHP), full filling management practices. The ideal candidate or member of “Casa Blanca” is an avid out-doors man, a team player and enjoys trophy deer hunting.
